FREE Guided Mindfulness Practice Sessions

We hold FREE Guided Mindfulness Practice Sessions twice a month.  These drop in sessions are held from 1915 – 2100hrs.  The content varies depending on attendees but typically we begin with a reading, followed by Mindfulness meditation and we end with a Q&A session.

So what is the value of Group Meditation? In Buddhism, a group is called a Sangha which roughly translated means a Community.  There are several advantages of meditating in a Sangha:

Firstly: as these are FREE drop-in sessions, it allows people to try Mindfulness Meditation without any pressure .

Secondly: there is comfort in numbers so first timers feel less vulnerable.

Finally: when several people share a space, their individual energies intermingle to create an atmosphere that is more powerful than simply their own.  In Meditation sessions, the calmness grows as do the feelings of Compassion and Empathy. The validity of limbic resonance across species was recently manifested in my cat’s behaviour: Tilly is a nervous cat who ducks under the bed every time the doorbell rings.  However, when we began our Mindfulness practice session, she sauntered into the room, rubbed herself against the meditators and then curled up in the middle of the room.  Whilst she sits by me each morning when I meditate, I was not expecting her to do the same with strangers.  I take this as proof of communal calmness at work.

PLEASE NOTE: there is no requirement for you to subscribe to Buddhism to benefit from Mindfulness meditation.  However, to practice it in isolation will bring you only half of the rewards – ignoring its origin is like appreciating the heat of the sun whilst being blind to its light.
